STIGMA
Stigma is being looked down upon and perceived by many
people as someone who is an outcast to society or communities because of the
person’s health status or condition (World Health Organization, 2013).
DISCOURSE
Discourse related to how people know the things that we do including
facts or so-called truths (Donovan, 2013). The main aspects of discourse include;
ideas, ideologies, text, institutions, and social practices. These aspects help
determine how we believe our ideas are true.
GOVERNMENTALITY
Governmentality
relates to how the government, institutions, agencies, and experts get
people and populations to do things. These institutions, agencies and
experts try to “govern” people while minimizing costs to the state
(Donovan, 2013). This is the way that government/agencies/institutions
try to control the way people live their lives and make people do things
such as going to work or school. People do not have to go to work or
school, but they do because there will be a negative outcome if they do
not have a job or get an education.
